DMX’s prayers are being brought to life in a new project. “Let Us Pray: Chapter X” is a culmination of the late rapper’s musings to God.
Multi-Grammy Award-winning gospel songwriter and producer Warryn Campbell is behind this showcase of the rapper’s spiritual side. He’s providing original music that will enhance the power of DMX’s words. “Let Us Pray” boasts features from various artists across genres including Snoop Dogg, Mary Mary, LeCrae, MC Lyte and more.
Campbell spoke about the experience of bringing this album to fruition in a statement.
“Working on Let Us Pray: Chapter X has been one of the most fulfilling experiences for me as a creative,” he said. “When you hear the voice of DMX, it inspires instant creativity and what better way to showcase who X really was than through prayer. I believe I can speak for MC Lyte, Killer Mike, Snoop Dogg, LeCrae, Mary Mary, Lena Byrd Miles, and Terrace Martin when I say it was an honor and privilege to be part of this amazing work.”
“Let Us Pray” invites fans to celebrate DMX’s legacy in a whole new way. When he was still among us, the rapper, born Earl Simmons, was devout Christian who often incorporated his faith in his music and life. Several prayers are included in his discography. His song “Slippin’” even starts with a psalm about suffering.
DMX said he always felt the calling to become a pastor, but never pursued it. However, in 2019, two years before his death, he got ordained as a deacon at an Arizona church. The same year, he led a prayer at one of Kanye West’s Sunday Services. He would also host Bible study on Instagram Live. In one of his meetings he encouraged people to find themselves through Christ.
“We’re suffering,” he said, “but as long as you got God, it’s gon’ be all right.”
“Let Us Pray” will be released on December 13.
