A recall is underway for bags of broccoli florets that have been sold in 20 states. It’s due to concerns that they may be contaminated with listeria.
When ingested, listeria, a bacteria, can cause an illness called listeriosis. However, there are two types of listeriosis. They include intestinal illness and invasive illness. Signs of invasive listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, seizures and other symptoms.
According to the CDC, an intestinal listeria infection tends to cause mild symptoms similar to other food-borne illnesses. But, those who get intestinal listeriosis can develop a more severe and invasive illness that spreads beyond the intestines.
Braga Fresh produces the item under recall—washed and ready-to-eat 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets. The product was sold in Walmart stores across the country. The recall notice was posted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website on December 31, 2024.

This new recall comes just weeks after another recall affecting other broccoli products and vegetables sold at Walmart. Some of them include the Marketside branded items. But, that recall was due to possible contamination with E. coli.
Texas Health and Human Services discovered this latest potential contamination when routine testing of samples from a Texas Walmart turned up positive for listeria. No illness have been reported right now.
The affected items have an expiration date of December 10, 2024, so the product is no longer in stores. However, there are concerns customers who purchased the broccoli may still have it in their homes. Anyone who has them should not eat them and throw them in the trash.
If the bagged broccoli has been recalled, it will show the product UPC code “6 81131 32884 5” and lot code “BFFG327A6.”
The Marketside broccoli florets were sold in the following states: Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
