Tiya Miles’ New Book, ‘Night Flyer,’ Offers Fresh Look At Harriet Tubman’s Faith

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. doesn’t disappoint when it comes to telling Black history. One of the recent stories under his editorship includes the inspirational tale of Harriet Tubman by American historian and author Tiya Miles.

As a conductor of the Underground Railroad, Tubman was a courageous figure whose actions contributed significantly to the abolition of slavery. Tiya Miles unpacks her legacy in her new book titled “Night Flyer: Harriet Tubman and the Faith Dreams of a Free People” – a book that offers a fresh look at Harriet Tubman, challenging the familiar image of her as a one-dimensional “avenger.” Instead, ‘Night Flyer’ invites readers to explore her dreams, beliefs, and the broader context of Tubman’s life’s work rooted in her faith.
