There’s not much left to say that hasn’t already been proclaimed when it comes to discussing Maverick City Music. GRAMMY Awards? Got a few of those. Billboard Music Awards? One of those, too! GMA Dove Awards? One-two-three-four-five of ’em — the latest coming back in 2023 with their big win in the “Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year” category for their fan-favorite collaborative live album, Kingdom Book One, alongside the legendary Kirk Franklin. It’s clear to see the holy collective has stepped graciously into their role as new kids on the block, and it all started thanks to two men: previously-featured maverick, Norman Gyamfi, and a very similar man-behind-the-music, Jonathan Jay.
Also CEO of parent contemporary worship music label, Tribl Records, Jonathan Jay is very much building himself into the Berry Gordy of contemporary gospel music. From the beginning back in 2018, he helped to bring together Christian artists and songwriters that’s since totaled up in the hundreds. It’s a testament to spreading God’s word in any way possible that Jay established even before the world knew what a Maverick City was — we’re talking back in 2014 when he was still a keyboardist for fellow Atlanta-based worship collective, Housefires. Now a mainstay on Billboard’s U.S. Christian and U,S. Gospel charts alike, it’s no surprise to see why he’s relishing in all that God has blessed him with thus far.
As Jonathan Jay continues to embark on a steadily-burgeoning career in contemporary worship music, we believe that he’ll be presenting us with some of the greatest singers the world has to offer with a message via song about keeping your spirituality intact. We can’t wait to hear it, whether through Maverick City Music, the Tribl collective or whatever he puts his mind to bring together next. As long as he keeps changing the word, one song at a time, we’ll be here and tuned in to listen.
