While you may just be hearing about Lisa Page Brooks‘ striking “yea yea yea yea” adlibs-gone-viral from video where she’s singing “the devil is a liar,” it’s been a staple of the established gospel singer for decades.
Lisa Page Brooks first got her start in gospel music in 1986 as a member of a contemporary gospel group out of Detroit called Witness. People often compared the group to the legendary male group, Commissioned, as they were inspired by such. Michael A. Brooks, her husband and an original member of Commissioned alongside Fred Hammond, established the group.
The singer went solo in 1997 and released five albums since with a few singles and features in between. Some of her most popular songs include “I Want To Say Thank You” off her 2009 album, Strong:
And a feature on VaShawn Mitchell’s “His Blood Still Works.”
A mom of four, she passed the singing gene down to her daughter Tasha Page-Lockhart who won season 6 of BET’s Sunday Best and went on to become a Stellar Award winning gospel artist herself.
From the looks of a recent post by her daughter, Lisa Page Brooks may be looking to record new music since going viral earlier this month with her “yea yea yea yea” chant at the Restoration Fellowship Church International where she is First Lady.
“My mom hasn’t recorded without my dad since 1986. This is the first time and I’m honored that you would trust me with this moment @lisapagebrooks,” Page-Lockhart wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been hearing you “yea yea yea yea” for 41 years now lol. I’m still in awe of the gift that you are!!! You live rent free in my mind every day. You deserve all the love that you’re getting. I love you and I’m so proud of you for pressing and pushing through.”
The Devil Is a Liar
The Brooks family lost their patriarch, Bishop Michael A. Brooks, on July 16, 2024. Lisa’s faith and family has carried her through the difficult time.
The devil is a liar. Yea yea yea yea.
She sings it. We feel it. Because she believes it. Her anointing and how she’s been sharing her journey through grief with transparency this summer is a blessing.
Gerald and Tammi Haddon, along with producers D Lo and Ollie Harris who were all tagged in the revealing post, may be a part of the collaborative release “loading.”
