Erica Campbell is meeting the moment with her latest music video for “Trust and Obey.” The song describes the importance of clinging to God even though life might throw us a couple of curve balls.

“Trust and obey,” she sings in the chorus. “Try to hear hear what I say and do it my way. Hey, trust and obey. Oh, would you trust and obey. Blood was shed on calvary. Know that I set you free.”

Shot in London and made public on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, she explained her reasoning for releasing this visual during what she calls a volatile time in the world.

“The reason I wanted to release it now is because of the season that we are all in is crazy,” she said in a video on Instagram. “Whether you are in California and dealing with the devastating fires or somewhere else in the world and dealing with whatever it is you’re dealing with, learning to trust and obey God and not be moved by your feelings, but by your faith.”

However, Campbell acknowledges trusting God is not so simple and that fear may be in the equation.

“Not be moved by your fear, but by the promises of God is not as easy as it seems it would be,” she said.

The singer and host of “Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell” went on to describe the importance of clinging to God’s promises even if others are not doing so.

“Sometimes what you’re supposed to do and what you want to do is opposite,” she said. “You don’t try to live right, you’re trying to live right. The song is like trust and obey, reminding to trust and follow God’s will, God’s path [and] God’s way. Even if it seems like everyone is going the opposite direction.”

“Trust and Obey” is one of several tracks from Campbell’s 2023 album “I Love You.”
