As the weather shifts, your skin’s needs tend to also change, making the need to have proper skincare products handy extremely important. While running to Sephora or your local drugstore for the viral skincare product on social media is always a nice thrill, going the natural route definitely offers some great advantages. Creating your own skincare products is not only cost effective, but using items from your own kitchen pantry ensures that what you’re putting on your face is free from additives and catered to your own skincare needs.
Natural Skincare Recipes
Whether you’re breaking out, suffering from extremely dry skin, or struggling with hyperpigmentation, there’s probably a custom face mask, toner, and scrub you can create to help sooth it. If you’re looking to save a coin and get creative with pampering yourself, check out these five DIY natural skincare recipes we recommend for a supple glow.
1. Hydrating Mask + Exfoliator
Ingredients: Oatmeal, Honey, Water
Directions: Mix 2 tablespoons of oats with 1 tablespoon of honey. Add water.
If you suffer from dry skin, this oatmeal and honey mask will give you the moisture you’re lacking, plus more. Oatmeal is known to sooth and repair dry skin, ultimately repairing your skin’s barrier. You can use as an exfoliator and wash off immediately or you can use in the form of a hydrating mask and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Oatmeal supports in calming the skin as it exfoliates at the same time. With anti-inflammatory properties, oats take on the job of reducing irritation of the skin, while still cleansing and hydrating the skin.
2. Soothing Acne Fighting Face Mask + Spot Treatment
Ingredients: Honey, Baking Soda, Cinnamon
Directions: Mix a tablespoon of honey, a teaspoon of baking soda, and a half a teaspoon of cinnamon together until the three combined items create a thick paste like consistency. Raw and organic honey are the preferred preference.
While it may sound like you’re baking a cake, these ingredients all work together to fight those stubborn breakouts. Honey, which is known for its acne fighting properties, is the original moisturizer. Alongside hydrating the skin, honey also is widely known for its antibacterial properties that allow the skin to glow, breakout free.
3. Hyperpigmentation + Dark Spot Face Mask
Ingredients: Turmeric Powder, Rice or Chickpea Flour, Yogurt for Oily Skin, Olive, Almond, and Coconut Oil for Dry Skin, Honey
Directions: After mixing all ingredients together based on your skin type, you’re advised to leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off. If dealing with acne, yogurt would be the best option when creating this recipe. Follow up with your daily cleanser and moisturizer.
Turmeric is known for more than just making delicious dishes in the kitchen. Also known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, the popular DIY powder, when used properly, has the ability to brighten your skin by decreasing any signs of hyperpigmentation over time.
The effectiveness of these DIY skincare recipes may vary depending on individual skin types, sensitivities, and underlying conditions. Consult with a healthcare professional.
