A bevy of tributes continue pouring in for Frankie Beverly. The soul singer, songwriter and frontman of the band Maze died on September 10 at the age of 77.
“Grieving the loss of a loved one is a deeply personal and emotional experience,” his family wrote about his passing in a Facebook post. “During this time, as we are navigating feelings of sorrow, reflection, and remembrance we kindly ask for privacy and understanding, allowing us the space to grieve in our own way. This period for is one of healing, and your respect for our need for solitude is appreciated as we honor the memory of our beloved Howard Stanley Beverly known to the world as Frankie Beverly.”

His cause of death remains unknown at this time, but his spirit lives on through his music.
Over the weekend, Pastor Mike Jr. took to the pulpit at Rock City Church to share details of the church’s interaction with Beverly over the years. Pastor Mike Jr. has a deep relationship with music. He’s the self-proclaimed King of Urban Inspiration and has umpteen Stellar and Dove Awards to his name.
In an Instagram video, he said Rock City would assist with Beverly concerts whenever he would come to Birmingham. They would provide equipment and technology to support his performances. The choir then went into a rendition of “Before I Let Go” which had the entire congregation out of their seats singing along.
A sing-a-long of sorts also happened in New Orleans Monday evening (September 16). Crowds gathered to give Beverly a New Orleans-style send-off with a second line parade through the streets.
The group carried a clear casket with a cut-out image of Beverly as people cheered and jazz music played. Beverly had a deep relationship with New Orleans. Back in July, the Essence Festival featured a tribute to Frankie Beverly & Maze. The soul band closed out the event during the festival’s first 15 years.
